The exclusive capsule collection tells the legend of the Moor and the Maiden, the two unfortunate lovers who fell victim to passion and jealousy.

THE LEGEND OF THE MOOR’S HEADS

Around the year 1100, during the period of Moorish rule in Sicily, a beautiful maiden lived in Palermo’s Kalsa district, spending her days tending to the plants on her balcony. One day, a young Moor happened to pass by. As soon as he saw her, he fell in love and decided she would be his: without hesitation, he entered the girl’s home and declared his love for her.

The Maiden, fascinated by such ardor, immediately fell in love with the young Moor. Unfortunately, her happiness did not last long: she discovered that the Moor already had a family waiting for him in the East.

Her heart was broken and, blinded by jealousy, the Maiden killed the Moor in his sleep and then cut off his head. She made it into a vase in which she planted basil. Watered by her tears, the basil flourished, and the plant became the envy of the neighborhood residents, who had terracotta vases depicting the heads of Moors made especially for themselves.

This gave rise to the custom throughout the balconies of Sicily of using the famous vases depicting the Moor and the Maiden to hold beautiful plants and colorful flowers.
